kindly refer to your office letter No. 6-11/2018-PBI dated 04.08.2022, where in instructions for utlization of the counter staff and Postal Assistant to promote Life Insurance Products of other, private insurance companies has been issued. Our view point is before introducing any scheme, products mainly of private companies we should consider how much benefits these will provide with ‘our Department, particularly when the dangerous report of the Task Force Committee is now being implemented in various ways.
As of now the Postmen/GDS officals are being utilised for promoting General Insurance products offered by TATA AIG and Bajaj Allianz Insurance companies on behalf of IPPB. Its further decided to enter into joint venture with life insurance companies for the promotion of their life insurance schemes. As per the Directorate letter cited above, the proposal for extending the sale of life insurance products of other private companies like SBI Life, HDFC Life are also in pipeline. It is needless to mention that they are the major competitors for our own Life Insurance products (both PLI and RPLI) which are the major revenue generating products for a long time. But unfortunately,
this background is not kept in mind while making room in DoP for other private insurance players. ‘Our basic concer is that interests of our own insurance schemes should not be compromised in the name of business growth. Again, the instructions so as to engage Counter Staff/Postal Assistants to source Insurance business with their personal mobile phones etc is not acceptable to staf side.
However, we think as like as SBI and other nationalised banks etc. promoting only their respective insurance products and blocking entry for others, our Department can also start a new Postal General Insurance Scheme under PLI Directorate exploring further avenues to penetrate in insurance sectors, apart from PLI/RPLI
