Incorporation of provision of MIS of void emo in  CSI, extension in currency period of emo and the consequent decrease in the time period of void money order till it becomes forfeited emo.


This is regarding  incorporation  of provision  of MIS in respect of void emo  to be incorporated in CSI, extension in currency period of emo and the consequent decrease in the time period of void money order till it becomes forfeited emo.

2.  In this context, the competent authority has decided as under:

“The currency period of emo shall be increased  for further one month from the last day of  the  following  month  from  the  date  of  issue  of  an  emo  to  last  date  of  second successive month from the date of issue of an emo”.

3.    In view of the above, the following provisions of Postal Manual Volume 6 Part 1 and Postal Manual Volume 6 part 2 are amended accordingly as under:

Rule Number 289 (1)

Current content

Period   of  currency   of  money orders.—

(1)  The  period  of  currency   of  a money   order   expires   with   the close of the last day of the month following  the  month  of  issue.  For this purpose,  the "month  of issue" will  be  the  month  shown  by  the month-stamp   impression   on  the money  order  and the "’last  day of the month“  will  be  the  last  date  on which the accounts  for that month are  dosed  at the head office. if   there   is   any   chance   of   its payment, up to the last day of the second month following the month of   issue   by   writing   across   the money  order  in  red-ink  the  words ’Currency  expired—held  over  for payment"    and    supporting    the endorsement   with   his   signature and designation.


NOTE—Duplicate   money    order issued    within    the    period    of currency   of   the   original   money orders   may   be   held   over   for payment   beyond   the   period   of currency    of   the   money   order under the provisions of this rule. In case they remain unpaid up to the last   day   of   the   second   month following the month of issue of the original  money  order, they  should be returned to the offices of issue for   onward   transmission   to   the audit  office  along  with  the  void lists.     Duplicate     money     order issued after expiry of the period of currency   of   the   original   money order  should, if  remaining  unpaid, after  one  month  of  the  date  of issue     of    the    duplicates,    be disposed    of    according    to    the procedure prescribed in Rule 300.
