Urgent Appeal for Restoration of Dilapidated Staff Quarters at Solapur Head Post Office
A strong appeal has been submitted to the Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, seeking immediate restoration and repair of the dilapidated staff quarters located inside the historic Solapur Head Post Office campus. The representation was made by Shri Vilas Ingale, Retired ADPS (A&V), Foreign Post Office, Mumbai, and former General Secretary of the All India Association of Inspectors and Assistant Superintendents of Posts.
In his detailed representation dated 20 May 2026, Shri Ingale highlighted the heritage importance of the century-old Solapur Head Post Office building situated opposite Solapur Railway Station. He praised the well-maintained campus, the functioning offices of the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices and Assistant Superintendents, and the staff recreation facilities available within the premises.
However, he expressed serious concern over several old departmental residential quarters near the main entrance of the campus that have fallen into a completely dilapidated condition due to years of neglect and lack of repairs. According to the representation, these quarters were earlier occupied by MTS and Postman staff members but now stand damaged and abandoned.
The letter also states that the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Solapur Division, had repeatedly taken up the matter with higher authorities for sanctioning repair works, but the proposals reportedly remained pending for administrative reasons, leading to further deterioration of valuable departmental assets.
Shri Ingale emphasized that Solapur is an important district headquarters and one of the busiest postal centres in the region. Due to frequent staff transfers, restored quarters could provide much-needed accommodation for transferred employees and officers. He further suggested that the repaired quarters could be utilized as Post-Attached Quarters for Assistant Superintendents of Posts (ASPs), Senior Postmaster, or Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, especially considering the All India transfer liability of these officers.
The representation also stressed the security importance of having a responsible gazetted officer residing within the heritage campus. Continuous officer presence would help prevent encroachment, vandalism, and ensure immediate administrative response during emergencies.
Seeking urgent intervention, Shri Ingale requested the Maharashtra Circle administration to sanction funds on priority for immediate repair and restoration of all the damaged quarters in the Solapur HO campus. He expressed hope that the long-pending issue would finally receive serious attention under the leadership of the Chief Postmaster General.
