India Post Launches Digital Payment Facility for COD Deliveries in DSS App
India Post Introduces Digital Payment Facility for COD Deliveries Through DSS App
India Post has taken another significant step towards enhancing customer convenience and promoting digital transactions by enabling Cash on Delivery (COD) article delivery through digital payment modes in the Door Step Delivery (DSS) App. The new facility allows customers to make COD payments digitally at the time of delivery, ensuring a seamless, secure, and cashless experience.

As per the operational guidelines issued by Advanced Postal Technology (APT), delivery staff using the DSS App can now collect COD amounts through multiple payment options, including Digital QR-based payments and SBI ePay. The facility has been integrated into the existing delivery workflow, making the process simple for both postal employees and customers.
Before initiating delivery, postal staff must acknowledge the assigned COD articles in the DSS App and verify details such as article number, COD amount, and customer information. During delivery, the app displays the article details, amount to be collected, and delivery status options. OTP verification will be required for articles marked for OTP-based delivery or when deliveries are attempted outside the designated jurisdiction.
For digital payments, the delivery employee can select the “Digital” option, generate a QR code, and request the customer to scan it using any UPI-enabled application. Upon successful payment, the system automatically updates the payment status, delivery confirmation, and geo-coordinates, ensuring transparency and accountability in the delivery process.
An alternative payment option through SBI Pay has also been provided. Under this method, the customer can complete the payment by scanning a UPI QR code generated through the SBI ePay gateway. Once the transaction is successful, the DSS App automatically records the payment and completes the delivery process.
The operational guide also addresses delayed payment confirmation scenarios. In cases where the customer's account is debited but the payment confirmation is not received immediately, the DSS App provides a mechanism to verify the payment and update the article status on the same day, thereby reducing customer inconvenience and operational delays.
India Post has advised delivery personnel not to close the application, disable internet connectivity, or switch off the mobile device during the payment process to ensure successful transaction completion. The initiative is expected to accelerate the adoption of digital payments, improve customer satisfaction, and strengthen India Post’s commitment to providing modern, technology-driven postal services across the country.
