As per Circular No. 2 dated 20 May 2026, issued from the Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Karnataka & Goa, the Bakrid holiday will now be observed on Thursday, 28 May 2026, instead of the previously notified date of Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
The decision has been taken in accordance with the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) Office Memorandum dated 03.07.2025, which authorizes CGEWCCs in State Capitals to modify holiday dates for festivals like Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Zuha, Muharram, and Id-e-Milad based on the decisions of respective State Governments and Union Territories.
The circular further states that the Government of Karnataka had already declared a holiday on 28.05.2026 on account of Bakrid, prompting the revision for Central Government offices as well.
The order has been communicated to all Heads of Departments of Central Government offices in Bengaluru for necessary action and compliance.
This change will help ensure uniform observance of the Bakrid holiday across Karnataka government establishments and Central Government offices.
