National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2026: Applications Open Till 31 July

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, has invited nominations and applications for the National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, 2026.

The Department of Posts has circulated the notification to all Postal Circles, Directorates, PTCs, CEPT, and other offices, requesting them to identify and nominate deserving Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and institutions working for their empowerment.

Prestigious National Recognition

The National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities are among the prestigious civilian honours presented by the Government of India. These awards recognize outstanding achievements of Divyangjan and institutions/organizations contributing significantly towards the empowerment and mainstreaming of persons with disabilities.

The awards are presented every year on 3rd December, observed as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Applications and nominations are being accepted exclusively through online mode on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.

Important Dates

  • Online nominations started: 15 May 2026

  • Last date for submission: 31 July 2026

Only nominations received within the prescribed period will be considered.

Instructions to Postal Circles & Units

The Department of Posts has requested all Heads of Circles, Directorates, PTCs, CEPT, and administrative units to ensure wide dissemination of the information and encourage eligible PwD employees and institutions to participate.

All concerned offices have also been instructed to upload the nomination details on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal before the deadline.

Objective of the Awards

The awards aim to:

  • Recognize exceptional achievements of PwDs

  • Encourage inclusivity and empowerment

  • Promote accessibility and equal opportunities

  • Honour organizations working for disability empowerment

  • Inspire society towards greater participation and support for Divyangjan

Eligible candidates and institutions are encouraged to apply well before the closing date to avoid last-minute issues.
