Department of Posts Seeks Updated GDS Strength Details from All Circles
The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has issued an important communication to all Chief Postmasters General regarding the submission of the sanctioned and working strength of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) as on 31 March 2026

As per the letter dated 13 May 2026 issued from Dak Bhawan, New Delhi, all Postal Circles have been directed to furnish the required information in the prescribed format by 29 May 2026 positively
Details to be Furnished
The report seeks Circle-wise data for the following GDS categories:
Branch Postmaster (BPM)
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
Dak Sevak
The information must include both:
Sanctioned strength
Working strength
The details are to be provided separately for:
Level-I
Level-II
Total positions in each category.
Gender and Category-wise Break-up
The Department has also requested a detailed breakup of the working strength based on:
Gender
Male
Female
Transgender
Categories
This data is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of representation and staffing across all Postal Circles.
Separate Gender-wise Data for BPM, ABPM and Dak Sevak
Additionally, Circles have been instructed to provide gender-wise distribution separately for:
BPM
ABPM
Dak Sevak
along with the total combined strength.
