MP Urges Centre to Construct Permanent Buildings for Branch Post Offices Across India
In a significant move aimed at strengthening rural postal infrastructure, Ambica G. Lakshminarayana Valmiki has written to Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, requesting the construction of permanent government buildings for Branch Post Offices (BOs) across the country.

The letter, dated 27 May 2026, was submitted following a representation from the All India Gramin Dak Sevaks Union (AIGDSU). The union highlighted that India has approximately 2.75 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) serving nearly 1.49 lakh Branch Post Offices nationwide.

Banking services

With nearly 65% of India's population residing in rural areas, Branch Post Offices often serve as the only Central Government establishment in villages. These offices play a crucial role in connecting rural citizens with postal, banking, and financial services.
Concern Over Temporary Infrastructure
According to the representation, a large number of Branch Post Offices continue to function from rented or temporary premises, despite the availability of government land in many Gram Panchayat areas.
The union has urged the Central Government to construct permanent 10×10-foot buildings for each Branch Post Office. Permanent infrastructure is expected to:
