As per the revised guidelines approved by the Postal Services Board, candidates applying for GDS posts in Nagaland must have studied English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject at least up to the 10th standard. In addition, candidates should possess knowledge of any one of the 19 notified tribal local languages or dialects of Nagaland.
The Department clarified that since these tribal languages are currently not taught up to the 10th standard in schools, proficiency or knowledge in such languages may be verified through a certification issued by the concerned Deputy Commissioner of the respective district.
The Office Memorandum further mentioned that the revised provisions will be incorporated into the GDS Engagement Portal for upcoming recruitment schedules.
The 19 tribal local languages/dialects notified by the Government of Nagaland include Angami, Ao, Chang, Chakhesang, Konyak, Khiamniungan, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sumi, Sangtam, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Zellang, Garo, Mikir, Kuki, and Kachari.
This move is expected to ensure better local representation and improve communication between GDS employees and the local communities across Nagaland.
