INDIA POST – POST OFFICE CALENDAR FOR THE YEAR 2026
The Department of Posts (India Post) follows a structured holiday and working-day calendar to ensure uninterrupted postal, banking, and customer services across the country. The Post Office Calendar for the year 2026 has been prepared keeping in view Gazetted Holidays, Restricted Holidays, and weekly off-days, in accordance with Government of India guidelines.

Weekly Holidays
-
All Sundays shall be observed as holidays.
-
Second and Fourth Saturdays of every month shall be observed as holidays.
-
Remaining Saturdays will be working days, unless otherwise notified.
Gazetted Holidays – 2026 (Major)
The following important national and gazetted holidays will be observed by Post Offices across India:

01 January – New Year’s Day

26 January – Republic Day

15 March – Holi

10 April – Good Friday

14 April – Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti

01 May – May Day / Labour Day

15 August – Independence Day

02 October – Gandhi Jayanti

23 October – Dussehra

25 December – Christmas
(Some holidays are subject to state-wise applicability as per local government notifications.)
Restricted Holidays (RH)
Restricted Holidays such as Guru Ravidas Jayanti, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, regional festivals, and local observances will be applicable as per the list issued by respective Postal Circles. Officials may avail Restricted Holidays with prior approval from the competent authority.
Postal & Savings Bank Services

Mail operations, counter services, and banking transactions will function on all working days.

On holidays, delivery and counter services will remain closed except for essential or notified services.

ATM services, digital transactions, and selected automated services will remain available as per system availability.
Administrative Instructions

All Divisional and Sub-Divisional Heads shall circulate this calendar to all Post Offices and administrative units under their jurisdiction.

Leave, duty rosters, and operational planning should strictly adhere to the notified calendar.

Any changes or additional holidays declared by the Government of India or State Governments shall be communicated separately.
