Department of Posts Directs Early Deployment of Revised NIC AeBAS APK on BPM Devices
New Delhi, July 21, 2026: The Department of Posts has instructed the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT), Bengaluru, to expedite the deployment of the revised NIC Aadhaar-enabled Biometric Attendance System (AeBAS) APK on MDM-enabled Branch Postmaster (BPM) devices to address attendance-related issues being faced by Branch Postmasters across the country.

According to the communication issued by the GDS Section of the Department of Posts, the revised AeBAS APK should be shared with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) through the existing SFTP channel that is currently used for sharing DREAM application updates. This approach has been suggested to ensure the earliest possible deployment without waiting for the creation of a separate SFTP channel.
The Department noted that the proposal for establishing a separate SFTP channel may be considered later, after the development and implementation of the facial recognition-based attendance system under the DREAM application.
The letter also clarifies that since the AeBAS application has been developed and maintained by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), CEPT is not required to carry out application-level testing or provide operational support for the present update. IPPB has also confirmed that, as per its internal security policy, the updated APK should be shared using the existing SFTP path already being used for the DREAM application.
Importantly, NIC has informed that the revised AeBAS APK is only a minor bug-fix update involving no change in functionality. Therefore, a fresh Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) or Security Audit Report is not required before deployment.
Considering the operational difficulties faced by BPMs in marking attendance, the Department has requested CEPT to proceed with the deployment of the updated NIC AeBAS APK at the earliest using the existing SFTP mechanism for sharing the APK with IPPB.
This initiative is expected to restore seamless biometric attendance for Branch Postmasters while paving the way for future integration of a facial recognition-based attendance system under the DREAM application.
