Parliament to Discuss Service Conditions and Welfare of Gram Dak Sevaks
New Delhi: The welfare and service conditions of Gram Dak Sevaks (GDS) are set to come under discussion in the Lok Sabha during the 29 July 2026 sitting through an Unstarred Question submitted to the Ministry of Communications. The question seeks detailed information on several important issues concerning GDS employees across the country.

According to the parliamentary question, the Government has been asked whether it has undertaken any review of the service conditions, workload, remuneration, and welfare benefits of Gram Dak Sevaks and, if so, the details and outcome of such a review.
The Member of Parliament has also sought State-wise details of the sanctioned strength, employees currently in position, and vacancies in the GDS cadre as on date. This information is expected to provide a clearer picture of manpower availability and vacant posts across the country.
Another important aspect raised in the question relates to the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). The Government has been asked to furnish details of revisions made during the last five years in TRCA, allowances, social security benefits, leave provisions, and other welfare measures for Gram Dak Sevaks.
The question further seeks to know whether the Government has received representations from Gram Dak Sevaks demanding regularisation of services, pensionary benefits, parity with departmental employees, and other service-related issues. It also asks for details of the action taken on such representations.
Finally, the Ministry has been asked whether the Government is considering any additional measures to improve the welfare, career progression, and social security coverage of Gram Dak Sevaks in the future.
The reply to this parliamentary question is expected to provide valuable insights into the Government's current policy and future plans regarding the service conditions and welfare of lakhs of Gram Dak Sevaks serving across India.
