The Department of Posts has issued an important Office Memorandum regarding the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE) for promotion to the Postal Service (PS) Group 'B' cadre for the vacancy year 2017–18. The action follows the implementation of the Hon'ble Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Ernakulam Bench's order dated 28 November 2025 in OA No. 194/2023 filed by Shri Swaraj Nair and others.

As part of the Tribunal's directions, the Department has decided to fill 25 shortfall vacancies under the LDCE quota for the vacancy year 2017–18. Consequently, the vacancy position for the year 2017–18 has been revised from Nil to 25 vacancies.
To implement this decision, the Department will assess the eligibility and suitability of candidates who appeared in the LDCE held on 29 November 2020, which covered the vacancy years 2017–18, 2018, 2019, and 2020. The examination results were declared on 1 June 2022.
A tentative Circle-wise list of eligible candidates has been published on the India Post website. Candidates who find any discrepancy or require corrections in the list can submit their objections through their respective Circle Authorities via email on or before 8 July 2026 (5:30 PM).
The Department has also directed all Circle Authorities to verify the tentative list, authenticate the details, examine representations received from affected candidates, and submit the final authenticated information to the Directorate by 10 July 2026.
This development is significant for officials who appeared in the LDCE for PS Group 'B' promotion, as it opens the way for filling the long-pending vacancies of the 2017–18 recruitment year in compliance with the CAT's directions. Eligible candidates are advised to carefully verify their particulars in the published list and ensure that any necessary corrections are submitted within the prescribed timeline.
