Department of Posts Clarifies: Cash Transactions Cannot Be Refused at Post Offices
The Department of Posts has reiterated that customers cannot be denied cash transactions at Post Offices, following an increase in public complaints regarding the refusal of cash services and the insistence on digital payments.
In an official communication circulated by the Office of the Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle, it has been observed that several complaints have been received from the public stating that some Post Offices are refusing to accept cash transactions and directing customers to use only digital modes of payment.
The communication clearly states that digital transactions should not be made compulsory. While Post Office officials are encouraged to educate customers about the advantages of digital transactions and motivate them to adopt cashless payment methods, the final choice must always remain with the customer.
The Department has emphasized that if a customer wishes to carry out a transaction in cash, the request should not be refused under any circumstances. Officials have been instructed to ensure that cash transactions continue to be provided as a regular service and that customers are not inconvenienced.
The message has also directed that these instructions be brought to the notice of all Post Offices to ensure uniform implementation and prevent further public grievances.
This clarification reinforces the Department of Posts' commitment to providing customer-friendly services by promoting digital payments while safeguarding the customer's right to choose cash transactions whenever they prefer.
