CEPT's New IMS Platform for PLI/RPLI Expected to Launch in September 2026

India Post's New IMS Software Set to Transform Postal Life Insurance Services

The Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) is preparing to launch the new Insurance Management System (IMS) for Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI), with the rollout expected in September 2026. The next-generation platform is designed to simplify insurance processes, enhance customer convenience, and improve operational efficiency across India Post.

One of the major features of the new IMS is the introduction of online proposal forms. Customers will be able to submit insurance proposals through the PLI mobile app, website, or self-service portal, reducing the need to visit a post office for initial application formalities. For customers who require assistance, postal staff and Direct Agents will continue to provide support in submitting proposals.

The new system will also eliminate manual data entry at Central Processing Centres (CPCs). Since proposal details will be captured digitally at the source, duplicate form filling and manual verification processes will be significantly reduced, resulting in faster processing and fewer errors.

Another customer-centric feature is direct maturity payments, under which maturity proceeds will be credited directly to the policyholder's linked bank account. This is expected to speed up claim settlements and improve customer satisfaction.

The IMS will also support the issuance of non-medical insurance policies through e-KYC, enabling eligible customers to purchase policies online with CPC approval. This digital onboarding process is expected to make policy issuance quicker, simpler, and more convenient.

The implementation of IMS is expected to bring substantial operational improvements within India Post. With reduced paperwork, fewer manual checks, and streamlined workflows, Central Processing Centres are likely to experience a significant reduction in workload. The system is also expected to optimise operations, enabling better resource utilisation and supporting future rationalisation of CPC operations wherever required.

Overall, the new IMS represents a major milestone in the digital transformation of Postal Life Insurance. By combining online services, automation, direct payments, and e-KYC, the platform aims to deliver a faster, more transparent, and customer-friendly insurance experience while improving operational efficiency across the Department of Posts.
