The Tamil Nadu Circle, Department of Posts, has issued promotion orders to a large number of Postal Assistants/Sorting Assistants for promotion to the cadre of LSG (Lower Selection Grade). The memo dated 18.05.2026 contains the names of officials selected under various categories and allotted to different postal regions across Tamil Nadu.
As per the promotion memo, officials from Southern Region, Central Region, Chennai City Region and Western Region have been included in the promotion list. The selected officials have been allotted posting regions based on administrative requirements and vacancy positions.
The order clearly states that the promotion will take effect only from the date on which the officials actually join the promoted post of LSG after issuance of the memo. Officials are required to join the new place of posting within the prescribed period.
Important Instructions Mentioned in the Memo
The promotion memo contains several important conditions and instructions for the promoted officials:
Divisional Heads must issue transfer and posting orders within the stipulated timeline.
Officials who are unwilling to accept the promotion must submit an unconditional declination letter within 15 days.
If an official neither joins nor declines within the prescribed period, it will be treated as deemed declination of promotion.
No separate notice will be issued for modification, revision or cancellation of promotion orders if required later.
Officials facing vigilance or disciplinary proceedings may not be relieved without specific orders.
The memo also states that officials promoted on regular basis are not entitled to additional pay fixation benefits if they have already availed financial upgradation under TBOP/BCR/MACP schemes. However, eligible officials may exercise fixation option under FR 22(I)(a)(1) within one month from the date of promotion.
Region-wise Representation in Promotions
A significant number of officials from Tirunelveli, Madurai, Chennai City, Tiruchirappalli, Tambaram, Tuticorin, Coimbatore and other divisions have been included in the promotion order. Both UR and SC category officials are part of the promotion list.
Some officials have also been promoted with remarks mentioning departmental eligibility periods extending up to December 2026. The memo further clarifies that representations for region re-allotment before joining in the promoted post will not be entertained.
Promotion Order Issued by Tamil Nadu Circle
The memo has been issued by the Office of the Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle, Chennai, and signed by the Assistant Postmaster General (Staff & Establishment). Copies of the order have been circulated to all concerned Regional Offices and recognized service unions for necessary action.
