24 Speed Post Parcel Gets Major Tariff Reduction from May 22, 2026

India Post Revises 24 Speed Post Parcel Tariff to Boost Bulk Customer Volumes

The Department of Posts has announced a major revision in the tariff structure of the newly launched 24 Speed Post Parcel (24 SPP) service for bulk and contractual customers. The revised rates will come into effect from 22 May 2026 as part of a pilot initiative aimed at making the service more competitive in the courier and logistics market.

According to the Parcel Directorate, the 24 SPP service, initially launched on 17 March 2026, witnessed a sharp decline in booking volumes after launch. During the Annual Business Meeting of India Post, the Hon’ble Minister of Communications reviewed the issue and directed the department to obtain customer feedback regarding pricing and service features. Customers reportedly expressed concern that the earlier tariff structure was significantly higher than competitor rates offered by private logistics companies such as Amazon and Shiprocket.

Revised 24 SPP Tariff Structure

India Post has now approved a substantially revised pricing structure for the pilot period of 3+3 months. The updated rates are designed to make the product more attractive and competitive.

Some of the revised charges include:

  • Up to 500 grams: ₹30 (Local), ₹40 (Within State), ₹44 (Metro), ₹49 (Other States)

  • 500 grams to 1 kg: ₹35 to ₹79 depending on destination

  • 1 to 1.5 kg: Starting from ₹40 locally up to ₹165 for other states

  • 4 to 5 kg: ₹90 (Local), ₹172 (Within State), ₹303 (Metro), and ₹385 (Other States)

At present, only the six metro-to-metro lanes are operational. Therefore, only the Local and Metro tariff slabs are currently applicable.

17% Discount for Bulk Customers

The Department has also introduced a flat 17% discount for bulk and contractual customers during the pilot period. This discount will apply to Metro and other distance slabs, while Local rates will remain unchanged. The discounted pricing will be implemented during monthly billing.

Additionally, Cash on Delivery (CoD) charges for bulk customers using the 24 SPP service have been fixed at a flat rate of ₹7 per article.

Retail Rates Unchanged

India Post clarified that the revised rates are applicable only for bulk and contractual customers. Retail customer tariffs will continue under the existing structure, including the ₹200 rate for the 0–500 grams slab. From 22 May 2026 onwards, bulk customer bookings under the regular 24 SPP option will be discontinued and migrated to the new “24 Speed Post Parcel Special” category.

Training and Awareness Drive

To ensure smooth implementation, a presentation and training session for six metro circles was scheduled on 21 May 2026. The session covers booking methods for walk-in bulk customers, Excel uploads, self-service portals, SFTP uploads, and API integrations.

The Parcel Directorate has also instructed circles to widely publicize the revised tariff structure among marketing executives, mail offices, and customers to accelerate customer acquisition during the pilot phase.
