Kantara is a fable and fairy tale. It begins with the fable of a king transferring his land to his people, Panjurli, the guardian "god" in exchange for the peace of mind granted to him. Crossing from the 19th century to the later decades of the 20th century, it projects a rich culture involving the Kambala (buffalo race of coastal Karnataka), the Koala (guardian deities who appear in humans to connect with devotees) and the intricacies surrounding the lives of devotees.
While we have innumerable films that question and insult our culture, here is a film that magnificently glorifies the culture of a small landmass in a corner of India. To minimize attacks by ideologues, the film has a tagline stating that it is a fabrication. Apart from that, it is a mixture of art, lifestyle, language, the generosity of people, their faith, the pettiness of people in power and the enlightenment of God's mandate to live with nature and not against it.
Rishabh has written, directed and acted in the film and he has done a mind-blowing job in all three roles. The National Award Jury gets confused as to who among the three, writer or director or actor, is more deserving of the National Award. I don't want to be on the jury. The easiest way is to give all three awards to Rishabh Shetty.
An unabashed celebration of Tulu's culture, people and their lives. It is alien to people who don't know the place and culture, as happened to the Deputy Forest Range Officer in the first half. But the film grows on the viewer as it moves towards an indescribably spectacular climax. It can only be experienced.
The performances are all starcast natural and top notch. The art department, music, background score and cinematography gel beautifully to create an audiovisual treat. This is a good lesson for Bollywood on how to make an original movie that impresses without burning hundreds of crores.
I rated Rishabh Shetty's "Garuda Mhantan Vrishabha Vahanam" directed by Raj B Shetty as one of the top 5 gangster movies ever made in India. Kanthara cannot be easily placed into one genre. We can call it a retold fable in a realistic setup. It is nothing short of a classic. A modern day classic of "divine" proportions.
The climax blurs the distinction between the human and the divine. Kantara is a once in a lifetime movie experience and enters my top 10 greatest Indian movies of all time.

ಕಾಂತಾರ ಒಂದು ನೀತಿಕಥೆ ಮತ್ತು ದಂತ ಕಥೆ. ರಾಜನೊಬ್ಬನು ತನ್ನ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ವರ್ಗಾಯಿಸುವ ನೀತಿಕಥೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇದು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಪಂಜುರ್ಲಿ,ರಕ್ಷಕ "ದೈವ" ತನಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಮನಃಶಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ವಿನಿಮಯ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ನಂತರ ಇದು ಭೂಮಿ, ಕಾಡು ಮತ್ತು ಪಂಜುರ್ಲಿಯನ್ನು ಆರಾಧಿಸುವ ನಿಕಟ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. 19 ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಿಂದ 20 ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ನಂತರದ ದಶಕಗಳವರೆಗೆ ದಾಟಿ, ಇದು ಕಂಬಳ (ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಎಮ್ಮೆ ಜನಾಂಗ), ಕೋಲಾ (ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಲು ಮಾನವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ರಕ್ಷಕ ದೈವಗಳು) ಮತ್ತು ಭಕ್ತರ ಜೀವನದ ಸುತ್ತಲಿನ ಜಟಿಲತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕ್ಷೇಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಅನುಮಾನಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಅವಮಾನಿಸುವ ಅಸಂಖ್ಯಾತ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಬಳಿ ಇರುವಾಗ, ಭಾರತದ ಒಂದು ಮೂಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸಣ್ಣ ಭೂಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಭವ್ಯವಾಗಿ ವೈಭವೀಕರಿಸುವ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ವಿಚಾರವಾದಿಗಳ ದಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಲು, ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರವು ಒಂದು ಕಟ್ಟುಕಥೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಅಡಿಬರಹವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಅದರ ಹೊರತಾಗಿ, ಇದು ಕೇವಲ ಕಲೆ, ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿ, ಭಾಷೆ, ಜನರ ಔದಾರ್ಯ, ಅವರ ನಂಬಿಕೆ, ಅಧಿಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಜನರ ಸಣ್ಣತನ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿರದೆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬದುಕುವ ದೈವದ ಆದೇಶದ ಜ್ಞಾನೋದಯದ ಮಿಶ್ರಣವಾಗಿದೆ.
ರಿಷಬ್ ಚಿತ್ರ ಬರೆದು, ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಟಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮೂರು ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಮುದ ನೀಡುವ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಲೇಖಕ ಅಥವಾ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಅಥವಾ ನಟ ಎಂಬ ಮೂವರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅರ್ಹರು ಎಂದು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ತೀರ್ಪುಗಾರರಿಗೆ ಗೊಂದಲ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನಾನು ತೀರ್ಪುಗಾರರಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಲು ಬಯಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮೂರು ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ರಿಷಬ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ನೀಡುವುದು ಸುಲಭವಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿದೆ.
ತುಳು ನಾಡಿನ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಜನರು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಜೀವನದ ನಿರ್ಲಜ್ಜ ಆಚರಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೊದಲಾರ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪ ಅರಣ್ಯ ರೇಂಜ್ ಆಫೀಸರ್‌ಗೆ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಸ್ಥಳ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲದ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇದು ಅನ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಚಿತ್ರವು ವಿವರಿಸಲಾಗದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಅದ್ಭುತವಾದ ಕ್ಲೈಮ್ಯಾಕ್ಸ್‌ನತ್ತ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ವೀಕ್ಷಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಲು ಮಾತ್ರ ಸಾಧ್ಯ.
ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ಟಾರ್ಕ್ಯಾಸ್ಟ್ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಅಗ್ರಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಕಲಾ ವಿಭಾಗ, ಸಂಗೀತ, ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ಮತ್ತು ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಹಣವು ಆಡಿಯೋವಿಶುವಲ್ ಟ್ರೀಟ್ ಅನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಲು ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಜೆಲ್ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ನೂರಾರು ಕೋಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸುಡದೆ ಮನಸೆಳೆಯುವ ಒರಿಜಿನಲ್ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಇದು ಬಾಲಿವುಡ್‌ಗೆ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಪಾಠವಾಗಿದೆ.
ರಾಜ್ ಬಿ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದ ರಿಷಬ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯವರ "ಗರುಡ ಗಮನ ವೃಷಭ ವಾಹನ" ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದುವರೆಗೆ ತಯಾರಾದ ಟಾಪ್ 5 ಗ್ಯಾಂಗ್‌ಸ್ಟರ್ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ರೇಟ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಕಂಠಾರವನ್ನು ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಿಸಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾವು ಇದನ್ನು ವಾಸ್ತವಿಕ ಸೆಟಪ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮರುಕಳಿಸಿದ ನೀತಿಕಥೆ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಬಹುದು. ಇದು ಕ್ಲಾಸಿಕ್‌ಗಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಿಲ್ಲ. "ದೈವಿಕ" ಅನುಪಾತದ ಆಧುನಿಕ ದಿನದ ಕ್ಲಾಸಿಕ್.
