CEPT-Developed Insurance Management Solution (IMS) Launched at Bengaluru GPO and 22 Offices

A Major Milestone in the Digital Transformation of Postal Life Insurance

In a significant step towards the digital transformation of Postal Life Insurance (PLI), the Insurance Management Solution (IMS), developed in-house by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT), has been launched at Bengaluru General Post Office (GPO) and 22 offices under Bengaluru. This initiative marks an important milestone in the Department of Posts' efforts to modernise insurance services through indigenous technological innovation.

The launch demonstrates India Post's commitment to providing efficient, accessible and customer-friendly insurance services by leveraging digital platforms and simplifying existing operational processes.

Key Features of the Insurance Management Solution

The Insurance Management Solution is designed to streamline PLI operations, minimise paperwork and improve the overall experience for policyholders, postal employees and Direct Agents.

1. Online Proposal Submission

Customers can submit insurance proposals through the mobile application, website and self-service portal, making the process more convenient and accessible.

2. Assisted Proposal Submission

Postal employees and Direct Agents can assist customers in submitting insurance proposals through the system, ensuring that digital services remain accessible to those who require guidance.

3. Elimination of Manual Data Entry at CPCs

By digitising proposal submission, IMS eliminates the need for repetitive manual form filling and data entry at Central Processing Centres (CPCs), helping reduce administrative workload and improve operational efficiency.

4. Direct Credit of Maturity Benefits

The solution facilitates the direct credit of maturity benefits to policyholders' linked bank accounts, offering a more convenient and streamlined payment experience.

5. Online Purchase of Non-Medical Policies

Eligible non-medical insurance policies can be purchased online through e-KYC, subject to approval by the concerned CPC. This facility simplifies the purchasing process and promotes the adoption of digital insurance services.

Improving Efficiency and Customer Experience

The implementation of IMS represents a significant shift towards technology-enabled insurance operations. By reducing paperwork, minimising manual intervention and streamlining workflows, the system aims to improve service delivery and enhance operational efficiency across the postal insurance network.

The platform also empowers postal employees and Direct Agents with digital tools to facilitate insurance-related activities more effectively. Customers, in turn, can benefit from simplified procedures and greater convenience when accessing PLI services.

CEPT's Role in India's Digital Transformation

The successful development of IMS highlights the contribution of the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) to the Department of Posts' digital transformation initiatives.

By developing the solution in-house, CEPT has demonstrated the potential of indigenous technology to address the operational requirements of India Post. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of Digital India by promoting technology-driven governance, efficient public services and improved customer experiences.

The launch at Bengaluru GPO and 22 offices under Bengaluru marks another important step towards the wider adoption of digitally enabled Postal Life Insurance services.

Conclusion

The launch of the CEPT-developed Insurance Management Solution is a significant achievement for the Department of Posts and CEPT. With features such as online proposal submission, assisted digital services, reduced manual data entry, direct credit of maturity benefits and online purchase of eligible non-medical policies, IMS aims to make Postal Life Insurance services more efficient and accessible.

This initiative reinforces India Post's commitment to modernising its services through indigenous technological innovation while continuing to uphold the trust and reliability associated with Postal Life Insurance.
