Department of Posts Takes Note of Key Staff Associations’ Representations on Administrative Reorganisation and Five-Day Work Week
New Delhi, August–September 2026: The Department of Posts has taken note of representations submitted by various service associations on important issues concerning postal employees and the functioning of the Department.
An Office Memorandum issued by the Staff Relations (SR) Section, Department of Posts, has forwarded representations received from service associations to the concerned authorities for further necessary action.
One of the representations was submitted by the Federation of National Postal Organisations (FNPO), highlighting practical difficulties and operational implications related to public service delivery under Postal Engagement (PE-II). The representation also contained suggestions aimed at ensuring smooth and uninterrupted public service delivery.
Another important representation was submitted by the National Union of Postal Employees (NUPE), Postmen & MTS Group ‘C’, concerning the proposed bifurcation/reorganisation of Postal Administrative Units. The union has sought consultation with CHQ-level Staff Unions before finalisation of proposals relating to the bifurcation or reorganisation of Postal Administrative Units (Establishment).
Five-Day Work Week for Operational Staff
A separate Office Memorandum issued in August 2026 deals with the long-standing demand concerning the implementation of a five-day work week for operational staff in the Department of Posts.
The memorandum refers to a representation dated 20 August 2026 received from the Secretary General of the Federation of National Postal Organisations (FNPO) on the subject. The matter has been forwarded to the ADG (PO) and ADG (SPN) with a request to take necessary action.
