India Post Revises Training Rules for GDS Candidates Who Miss Initial Training
The Department of Posts has issued an important clarification regarding Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) candidates who are unable to attend their initially scheduled training due to genuine reasons. As per the Directorate letter dated 03 August 2026, Circle authorities have now been empowered to issue a revised training order, providing relief to eligible candidates who miss the first training schedule.

Background
The clarification was issued after Uttar Pradesh Circle sought guidance in the case of a GDS candidate selected under GDS Online Engagement Schedule-I (January 2026) who could not attend the training as per the original training order. After examining the matter in consultation with CEPT, the Directorate has decided to allow the reissuance of training orders under specified conditions.
What Has Changed?
According to the new instructions:
- If a selected GDS candidate is unable to attend the initially scheduled training due to a genuine reason, the competent authority may issue a revised 3-day training order.
- The revised order must be generated through the "Edit Training Details" option available in the GDS Online Engagement portal.
- The revised training order must be issued within 30 days from the date of the original training order to prevent misuse of the provision.
Special Relaxation
The Directorate has also granted a one-time relaxation in the case referred by the Uttar Pradesh Circle involving Ms. Pahal, while directing CEPT to introduce a 30-day validation in the online portal for future cases.
Significance for GDS Candidates
This decision provides much-needed flexibility for genuine cases where candidates miss training due to unavoidable circumstances. At the same time, the Department has ensured adequate safeguards by limiting the facility to a 30-day period, balancing administrative convenience with transparency and preventing misuse.
The revised procedure is expected to reduce unnecessary cancellations and help deserving GDS candidates complete their training without losing their opportunity due to genuine reasons.
