In a significant move aimed at strengthening its parcel logistics network and supporting India's rapidly growing e-commerce ecosystem, the Department of Posts has notified the Post Office (Sixth Amendment) Regulations, 2026, which will come into effect from 1 August 2026. Introduction of India Post Parcel Last Mile

One of the major highlights of the amendment is the introduction of India Post Parcel Last Mile, a dedicated service designed to facilitate efficient last-mile delivery within the local jurisdiction of parcel delivery offices. The service will be available exclusively to bulk and corporate customers who have entered into an agreement with the Department of Posts. Parcels can be booked either at the designated delivery office or at identified Parcel Hubs and Parcel Processing Centres. Proof of Delivery (POD), insurance, Cash on Delivery (COD), and other value-added services will also be available under this service.

Affordable Last-Mile Tariffs

The newly introduced service offers competitive pricing:

  • Up to 2 kg:
    • ₹15 when booked at the Delivery Office
    • ₹20 when booked at a Parcel Hub or Parcel Processing Centre
  • 2–5 kg:
    • ₹22 and ₹35 respectively

The maximum permissible weight under this service is 5 kg, and GST will be applicable as per prevailing rules.

Revised India Post Parcel Rates

The amendment replaces the existing tariff structure for India Post Parcel with revised retail and contractual rates based on weight slabs and destination categories such as Local, Within State, Zone/Metro, and Other States. The changes are intended to align postal parcel pricing with operational costs while remaining competitive in the logistics market.

Updated Speed Post Parcel Tariffs

Similarly, Speed Post Parcel tariffs have also been revised for both retail and contractual customers. The updated rate tables cover consignments from 500 grams up to 5 kilograms, with additional charges for every extra kilogram. The revised pricing reflects the Department's continued efforts to modernize and optimize parcel delivery services.

Effective Date

The revised regulations, issued through Gazette Notification S.O. 4241(E) dated 31 July 2026, will come into force on 1 August 2026. The amendment updates the Post Office Regulations, 2024, bringing new services and revised tariffs to enhance parcel delivery capabilities across the country.

The introduction of the India Post Parcel Last Mile service, coupled with revised parcel tariffs, marks another important step in the Department of Posts' modernization journey. By offering economical last-mile delivery solutions for business customers and updating parcel pricing, India Post is positioning itself as a stronger logistics partner for e-commerce companies, businesses, and institutional customers.
