DoPT Notifies Central Government Holiday Schedule for 2027
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued the official Holiday List for Central Government Offices for the year 2027. The notification provides a detailed schedule of Gazetted Holidays and Restricted Holidays that will be observed by Central Government employees throughout the year.
The annual holiday list is an important administrative document that helps government offices prepare their work calendars, leave schedules, and public service operations well in advance.

Holiday Structure for 2027
Under the notification, all Central Government offices located in Delhi/New Delhi will observe the holidays specified in Annexure-I. Besides these holidays, employees may also avail two Restricted Holidays of their choice from the list provided in Annexure-II, subject to office requirements.
For offices situated outside Delhi, a common set of compulsory holidays will be observed, while three additional holidays will be selected by the respective State-level Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee based on regional festivals and local traditions.

- Id-ul-Fitr
- Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid)

- Janmashtami
- Gandhi Jayanti
- Dussehra
- Diwali
- Guru Nanak Jayanti
- Christmas Day
Restricted Holiday List
The notification also includes a comprehensive list of Restricted Holidays, allowing employees to choose holidays according to their religious beliefs, regional customs, or personal preferences. The list includes festivals such as Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Maha Shivratri, Ugadi, Vaisakhi, Rath Yatra, Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam, Karwa Chauth, Naraka Chaturdasi, Bhai Dooj, Chhath Puja, and Christmas Eve, among others.
Important Guidelines
The DoPT has clarified that:
- No substitute holiday will be granted if a notified holiday falls on a weekly off.
- Holidays based on moon sightings, including Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Zuha, Muharram, and Id-e-Milad, may be revised if required.
- State-level Coordination Committees are authorized to modify the dates of these festivals for offices outside Delhi in accordance with decisions taken by the respective State Governments.

The release of the 2027 holiday calendar enables Central Government departments and employees to plan official work, tours, training programmes, examinations, and leave well in advance. It also ensures uniform observance of holidays across Central Government establishments while providing flexibility to accommodate regional festivals through optional holidays.
