Competitive Examination Scheduled on 12 July 2026
The Department of Posts, Tamil Nadu Circle, has officially announced the Competitive Examination for recruitment to the cadres of Postman, Mail Guard, and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) from eligible Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) for the vacancy year 2026. The examination is scheduled to be held on 12 July 2026 (Sunday).

Applications are invited from willing and eligible GDS employees for vacancies earmarked for GDS candidates and unfilled vacancies of the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE) quota for Postman and Mail Guard posts.
Eligibility for Postman and Mail Guard
Candidates applying for Postman and Mail Guard must fulfill the following conditions:
Must have passed 10th Standard from a recognized Board.
Should possess knowledge of computer operations.
Must know the local language of the concerned Circle/Division.
For Postman, possession of a valid two-wheeler or light motor vehicle driving licence is required.
Maximum age should not exceed 50 years as on 01.01.2026 (relaxations applicable as per Government rules).
Must have completed at least 5 years of regular engagement as GDS.
Eligibility for MTS
For Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS):
No upper age limit.
No minimum educational qualification prescribed.
Candidates should have completed at least 3 years of regular engagement as GDS as on the crucial date.
Examination Pattern
The examination will be conducted as per the revised pattern and syllabus issued by the Directorate.
Important Points
Candidates seeking appointment as Postman or Mail Guard must appear for the Local Language Test (Paper-III).
Candidates applying only for MTS need not appear for Paper-III.
Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) for Postman and Mail Guard will be conducted separately at a later date.
DEST will be conducted in English for 15 minutes on a computer.

Tiruchirappalli
Candidates must appear only at the centre allotted for their respective Region.

Post Preference and Division Preference Form (Annexure-II)
Two passport-size photographs
Required supporting documents
Applications received after the prescribed date will be rejected.
