Restructuring of Pointsmen Cadre – Railway Board Order RBE No. 39/2026 dated 14.05.2026

The Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) has issued a major order regarding the restructuring of the Pointsmen Cadre across Indian Railways. The order has been released vide RBE No. 39/2026 dated 14 May 2026 under PC-VII No. 245.

The restructuring has been approved after consultation with the Ministry of Finance and with the approval of the Hon’ble President of India.

New Hierarchy of Pointsmen Cadre

Under the revised structure, the Pointsmen cadre will now have the following hierarchy:

  1. Pointsmen Grade-IV – Level-1

  2. Pointsmen Grade-III – Level-2

  3. Pointsmen Grade-II – Level-4

  4. Pointsmen Grade-I – Level-5

This change introduces higher promotional avenues for Pointsmen employees, especially with the addition of Level-4 and Level-5 posts.

Effective Date

The Railway Board has clarified that the revised structure will be effective from:

03 April 2026

Further detailed implementation instructions will be issued separately by the Railway Board.

Official Statement

The Railway Board stated that the restructuring has been approved keeping in view the functional, operational, and administrative requirements of Indian Railways.

The order has been issued with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.
