West Bengal Circle Introduces “Counter Captain” System in Head Post Offices
In a significant customer service initiative, the Department of Posts, West Bengal Circle, has decided to deploy a dedicated “Counter Captain” in all Head Post Offices (HOs) across the circle for the financial year 2026–27.

As per an official communication issued by the Office of the Chief Postmaster General, West Bengal Circle, Kolkata, the decision was taken during the HoD Meet 2026 held on 06 May 2026.
Who Will Be the Counter Captain?
The post of Counter Captain will be handled by a Postal Assistant (PA) in the respective Head Post Offices under each division.
Main Responsibilities of the Counter Captain
The initiative is aimed at improving customer assistance and ensuring smooth functioning at the counters. The designated Counter Captain will:
- Wear a special “COUNTER CAPTAIN” brass naming badge.
- Wear a neck band displaying the message “MAY I HELP YOU”.
- Be provided with a dedicated 2 ft × 3 ft help desk along with a table plaque carrying the “MAY I HELP YOU” signage.
- Monitor customer service at counters and ensure that no customer faces refusal at any counter.
- Guide customers properly according to their requirements and help them access postal services efficiently.
Focus on Better Customer Experience
This move reflects the Department’s continued focus on enhancing customer satisfaction and strengthening public interaction in post offices. The Counter Captain is expected to act as a single-point support system for visitors, helping reduce confusion, improve queue management, and provide quicker assistance.
The initiative may especially benefit senior citizens, first-time users, and customers seeking guidance regarding postal, banking, insurance, and retail services available at Head Post Offices.
Official Approval
The order has been issued with the approval of the Chief Postmaster General (CPMG), West Bengal Circle and communicated to all divisional heads and regional authorities for implementation.
This customer-friendly initiative is likely to improve service quality and create a more welcoming environment in post offices across West Bengal Circle.
