Subject: Regarding instructions on non booking and transporting by air, the mail containing batteries and other prohibited articles.
The undersigned Is directed to refer to the O.M. of even number dated 30.09.2026 (copy attached) wherein instructions were issued to all the Heads of the Circles, to be followed for booking of international articles. In this regard, it is intimated that Lufthansa Cargo AG Mumbai has informed this Directorate that mail containing batteries has been detected in Frankfurt/FRA which is not acceptable to be transported by air.
2. in this regard, it is to inform that the transmission of batteries by air is prohibited. An O.M. No. 8-1/2008-D dated 02.05.2021 of MO Division is also forwarded herewith regarding booking of prohibited items and its transportation by air as per which various items including batteries are not allowed to be booked and transported by air. All the Circles are requested to ensure training of officials, not to book any article containing batteries and other prohibited articles for transportation by air.
3. All the Offices of Exchange are directed to ensure scanning and detection of dangerous/prohibited goods at the time of Customs scanning of such articles in liaison with the Customs officials. These instructions must be followed scrupulously to avoid such incident to be happened again in future.
