India Post Postman Salary 2026: Take-Home Pay Crosses ₹43,000

The salary of a Postman in the Department of Posts has witnessed a substantial increase in 2026 due to higher Dearness Allowance (DA) and other admissible allowances under the 7th Central Pay Commission. A newly appointed Postman in Pay Level-3 starts with a Basic Pay of ₹21,700 and receives additional benefits such as DA, House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and DA on TA.

As per the April 2026 pay structure, the earnings of a Postman include:

  • Basic Pay – ₹21,700
  • Dearness Allowance (DA) – ₹13,020
  • Transport Allowance – ₹3,600
  • DA on Transport Allowance – ₹2,160
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA) – ₹6,510

The total monthly earnings come to ₹46,990. After deductions towards NPS, CGHS, CGEGIS, and other statutory contributions, the net take-home salary is approximately ₹43,228 per month.

The annual gross income of a Postman is estimated at over ₹6.23 lakh. Under the New Tax Regime, many employees may not have any income tax liability depending on their eligible deductions and taxable income.

Apart from the monthly salary, Postmen are entitled to annual increments, promotions through departmental examinations, medical facilities, pension benefits under NPS, leave benefits, and other government service perks. The post continues to be one of the most sought-after entry-level positions in India Post, offering job security and steady career growth.
