Department of Posts Introduces Personalized Cheque Books for POSA Customers
In a major customer-centric initiative, the Department of Posts has officially introduced Personalized Cheque Books (PCB) for Post Office Savings Account (POSA) holders across India. The new facility came into effect from 08 May 2026 and aims to modernize postal banking services while improving customer convenience and security.
The announcement was issued through SB Order No. 05/2026 No. FS-POSB/6/2025-FS-DOP-Part(1 ) by the Financial Services Division, Dak Bhawan, New Delhi.
What Is a Personalized Cheque Book?
Unlike the existing instant cheque books, the newly introduced Personalized Cheque Books will contain pre-printed details of the account holder, including:
- Name of the account holder
- Savings account number
- IFSC of Department of Posts
This move aligns India Post’s financial services with modern banking standards and enhances security and customer convenience.
Facility Available From 08 May 2026
The Department has clarified that the PCB facility is now available for all Post Office Savings Account customers. Initially, customers can request the personalized cheque book by visiting their post office. In the next phase, the facility will also be made available through Internet Banking and Mobile Banking platforms.
Instant Cheque Books Will Continue
The Department has also confirmed that Instant Cheque Books will continue without interruption. Customers can choose either:
Instant Cheque Book
or
according to their preference.
However, there is one important operational change. Instant cheque books will now be issued only at the counter and will not be delivered to the customer’s address. On the other hand, Personalized Cheque Books will be dispatched free of cost to the customer’s last updated address through the postal network.
Important Conditions for Customers
The Department has prescribed several conditions before a Personalized Cheque Book request can be accepted:
- Mobile number must be linked with the primary CIF
- Minimum balance of ₹500 should be available
- Sufficient balance should exist for cheque issuance charges and GST, if applicable
- Account should not be dormant or frozen
- Signature records should be available in Finacle for all joint account holders
Customers have also been advised to update their address before applying to avoid non-delivery of cheque books.
Charges and Cheque Leaves
By default, the personalized cheque book will contain 10 cheque leaves. If a customer exceeds 10 cheque leaves in a calendar year, cheque issuance charges of ₹2 per cheque leaf along with applicable GST will be deducted from the account.
New Finacle Menu Introduced
To support the new system, a new Finacle menu called CPCBR has been introduced for:
- Add
- Modify
- Verify
- Cancel
- Inquiry
functions related to Personalized Cheque Book requests.
The Department has also added several validations and safeguards in the system to prevent errors and ensure secure processing. Supervisors must verify all requests before End of Day (EOD) operations.
Printing and Dispatch Process
The Department has onboarded Utility Forms Private Ltd. as the printing vendor with operational centers in Delhi and Chennai. Personalized cheque books will be printed, packed, and dispatched through designated nodal post offices.
- Delhi site will handle northern and eastern states
- Chennai site will handle southern and western regions including Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra
The cheque books will be dispatched through Speed Post under a special barcode series generated specifically for this purpose.
Strong Step Towards Modern Postal Banking
The introduction of Personalized Cheque Books marks another important milestone in the modernization of India Post’s banking and financial services. By incorporating printed customer details, digital validations, centralized printing, and Speed Post delivery, the Department of Posts is moving closer to providing banking services comparable to commercial banks while maintaining the trusted reach of the postal network.
The initiative is expected to improve customer satisfaction, enhance cheque security, and strengthen the overall POSB banking experience for millions of account holders across the country.
