India Post Opens GDS Rule-3 Online Transfer Cycle for May 2026
The Department of Posts has officially announced the schedule for the GDS Rule-3 Online Transfer Cycle – May 2026 under the Limited Transfer Facility (LTF) for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS). As per the latest order issued on 21 May 2026, the online portal will be opened for transfer applications and processing from 25 May 2026 onwards.

Important Dates for GDS Transfer Cycle – May 2026
The Department has released the complete timeline for the transfer process:
Vacancies to be Considered
The Directorate clarified that vacancies arising up to 31 May 2026 due to resignation, discharge, promotion, deputation to IPPB/APS, or other eligible reasons will be included in this transfer cycle. However, vacancies already earmarked for GDS engagement or affected by court cases will not be considered.
Additionally, surplus ABPM/Dak Sevak posts identified during establishment review will not be filled through transfer.

The Department has also released an extensive FAQ section to address doubts faced during previous transfer cycles.
Minimum Service Requirement
The minimum engagement period required for transfer applications is:
1 year for Mutual Transfers
1 year for PwBD category GDS
2 years for all other cases
Number of Transfer Chances
Male GDS can avail 2 transfer chances
Female GDS can avail 3 transfer chances
during their entire engagement period.
Cooling-Off Period
A mandatory 1-year cooling-off period is required between two successive transfers. However, if a GDS declines an approved transfer, it will still count as one transfer chance, though no cooling-off period will apply for the next cycle.
Cancellation Requests Now Final
From this transfer cycle onward, cancellation requests submitted during the 5-day window will be authenticated using OTP-based validation and treated as final. No reversal or withdrawal of cancellation requests will be allowed.
No Extension for Relieving
The Department clearly stated that no extension beyond the final relieving date will be permitted except in maternity or hospitalization/accident cases.
Mandatory Upload of Relieving Documents
The joining process in the system will not be allowed unless relieving details and Annexure documents are uploaded in the portal.
