Number of Post Offices Functioning/Operational in India 2021 | Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No 681 and Answer | List of Services Available in India Post/DOP/Post Office

SHRI B.B.PATIL: Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state: 

 (a) the total number of operational post offices across the country including rural areas, State/UT-wise; 

 (b) whether postal services have been provided in all the villages of the country including Telangana and if so, the details thereof including the details of all the services being provided by post offices; 

 (c) if not, the reasons therefore and the number of such villages where postal services are yet to be provided, State/UT-wise; 

 (d) whether the Government has formulated any plan to open post office in all the villages of the country; and 

 (e) if so, the details thereof? 

ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS (SHRI DEVUSINH CHAUHAN) 

(a) Sir, there are 1,56,434 post offices functioning across the country including rural areas. The State/ UT-wise details are at Annexure-I. 

(b) Yes, Sir. The postal services are provided through a network of 1,41,055 Rural Post Offices covering all the villages in the country. Of these, 5203 Rural Post Offices are serving the villages in Telangana. The details of postal services provided in all the villages of the country including Telangana are at Annexure-II. 

(c) Villages without post office are provided with postal services from existing nearby Post Offices and there are no villages without Postal Service coverage. 

(d) & (e) No Sir, there is no plan for opening of post offices in all the villages of the Country, in view of the reply above
